Bluegrass Bands AT the Kanack School Of Music 


American folk string ensembles and lessons at the Kanack School of Music in the town of Brighton, NY under the direction of Ben Proctor. Beginner String Jam

Tuesdays, 6:00PM-6:45PM
     Beginners of all ages
     $100/quarter for class only, or included with full Kanack tuition
Learn the basics of playing music with others, improvisation, and accompaniment in an American-style session. This class is for people who have very basic skills on a fretted or bowed string instrument. The repertoire consists of classic American folk, bluegrass and fiddle tunes like Old Joe Clark, Down the Road, and Nine Pound Hammer. Students have the opportunity to play simple or more complex parts, learn by ear, and take solos. Some sheet music and tablature is provided. Students perform a "gig" at the end of each semester. Bluegrass Bands

Tuesdays, 6:45PM-8:00PM, 8:00PM-9:15PM
     Intermediate and advanced students
     $100/quarter for class only, or included with full Kanack tuition
This class is for students who have proficiency learning by ear and playing at medium and faster tempos. Students learn melodies, chords, embellishment, improvisation, and backup playing. The repertoire consists of classic American bluegrass and fiddle tunes like Cherokee Shuffle, Foggy Mountain Breakdown, and Long Journey Home. The class is taught by ear (without sheet music).

Students are divided into smaller performance groups of similar playing level. They have input into song selection, arrangement and performance opportunities. Please contact for more information.
