Ben Proctor is a musical pilgrim living in Rochester, New York where he is currently a graduate student at the Eastman School of Music in Music Education. He has many annoying habits, like constantly playing instruments and singing children's melodies in odd meters. He likes to write songs and believes that teaching music is a high art.

Mr. Proctor graduated from SUNY Geneseo in 2005 with a Bachelor's degree in Music and Ethnomusicology. Before that, Ben lived in New York City where he postponed finishing college for the third time. With a lot of time on his hands and needing to support his annoying habits, he built websites, acted in peculiar off-off-Broadway theater, and performed with country and rock and roll bands.

Ben grew up in a Connecticut swamp where his parents fed him whole wheat bread and he dreamed of becoming a jazz trumpeter. He played with jazz-blues-world music-klezmer bands for a few years in Connecticut, but blew his chops out after moving to Manhattan. So, Ben turned to singing, writing, and playing fretted stringed instruments including (only God knows why) the 5-string banjo. He continues to teach and play the guitar, banjo, and mandolin.

Ben's professional memberships include the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, the International Arts Movement, the National Association for Music Education, and the Society for Ethnomusicology.

Ben dreams of one day having a really cool nickname and a family band with everyone in corny matching outfits.
